The amount of any benefits that a client was entitled to but did not receive.

unearned income

All income other than that received as wages, salary, or profit from self-employment.

unit

A person or group of persons who receives benefits under a specific program. For example, a TANF unit refers to all persons who receive TANF under the same identification number. A food stamp (FS) unit refers to all people who receive FS under the same identification number. A TANF/FS unit refers to all people who receive both TANF and FS under the same identification number. Use of the word unit is the same as the word case.

USDA

USDA is the abbreviation for the United States Department of Agriculture. The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), a part of USDA, administers the Food Stamp Program.

utilization control

A joint process undertaken by HFS and the Department of Public Health (DPH) to review patient care and payment levels for nursing homes. The review process consists of a point count, medical review, and utilization review.
