Certain Item 73 codes are centrally changed as follows:

  • Adult coded 0 (centrally assigned when no code was entered), or code 7 (child under age 1), is changed to code 9 in the calendar month that the youngest child in the case reaches age 1.
  • Dependent child in the City of Chicago, age 16 years one month through age 17 coded 0 (centrally assigned when no code was entered) or code 5 (in high school full-time), without Item 68, Activity Code 4 or 8, is changed to code B in the month the Chicago Board of Education (CBOE) match shows that the child has left school with a leave code of 36, 42, 44, 45, 60, 61, 64, or 65.
  • Adult age 18 coded 5 (full-time high school) is changed to code 9 for the month following the month they turn age 19, unless there is a child under age 1 in the case.

    If there is a child under age 1 in the case, and no one in the case is coded 7 (caring for a child under age 1), code 5 is changed to: 

  • code P, if the adult does not have a high school diploma or GED (Item 71, codes A - F); or
  • code 7, if the adult has a high school diploma or GED (Item 71, code G or code H).
  • Minor parents with a child under age 1 coded P (no high school diploma or GED), changed to code 7 (caring for a child under age 1):
    • on reaching age 20; or
    • completing a high school education; and
    • no one in the case is already coded 7.

      If someone in the case is already coded 7, code P is changed to code 9. 

  • Minor parents with code P, changed to code 9 (nonexempt), when the youngest child reaches age 1.
  • Person reaches age 60, a dash is centrally entered in Item 73.
  • new textIn the TANF Work Verification System (WVS), entry of "Yes" to "Eligible to stop 60-month counter based on GPA" on the screen for Vocational and Bachelor/Associate Degree programs in the RSP causes Item 73 to be centrally coded with G for the recipient.
  • new textEntry of "No" in WVS to "Eligible to stop 60-month counter based on GPA"; or RSP revised to remove Vocational and Bachelor/Associate Degree programs, Item 73 centrally changes from G to to 9.

When one of the above changes occurs, a Form 552 is produced showing the change in Item 73.
