General Assistance (GA) Payment Levels are based on Illinois Law. Payment Levels vary, depending on the number of persons in the case and whether the case is adult only, or adults and children, or children only.

There are 2 types of GA:

  • Transitional Assistance (TA) for adults who are not employable:
    • Category P3 TA for adults who are not employable due to disability, or
    • Category 07 TA for adults who are not employable for all other reasons (see PM 03-18-00).
  • Family and Children Assistance (GA-FCA) for:
    • children only, or
    • adults and children.

GA clients receive cash and medical benefits. There is no GA medical only program. Children receiving GA-FCA and adults receiving P3 TA receive the same medical benefits as TANF and AABD clients. Adults receiving Category 07 TA and adults receiving GA-FCA, receive limited medical coverage. Hospital services (inpatient and outpatient) are not covered for Category 07 TA clients.
