WAG 09-02-03-c.

When a responsible relative is living with the applicant or client, the Cash Standard applies. If the responsible relative is determined able to meet the cash needs of the person, the person is ineligible for benefits. If the responsible relative is determined able to contribute an amount less than the cash standard, use that amount as income for the person requesting benefits.

Consider the responsible relative to be living with the applicant or client if the responsible relative:

  • is absent for medical reasons only; and
  • is expected to return to the home within 90 days.

A parent is not responsible for an 18 year old child who is a full-time student expected to complete the graduation requirements before reaching age 19. Determine GA-FCA eligibility for an 18 year old without counting the income or assets of the parent(s). Establish a separate case for the 18 year old.
