To qualify for General Assistance (GA), a person cannot be eligible for AABD cash, TANF, or SSI. A person who is eligible for AABD cash, TANF, or SSI is not eligible for GA. A person receiving GA who becomes potentially eligible for AABD cash, TANF, or SSI can continue receiving GA pending the decision on the other program.

Failure to cooperate with a review of AABD, TANF, or SSI eligibility makes a person ineligible for GA. The person is ineligible for GA because they are not using all of their available resources.

Persons who are ineligible for AABD cash, TANF, or SSI due to a failure to comply with a mandated program requirement are ineligible for GA.

Eligibility for GA usually begins 30 days after the date of application. But if a GA applicant previously received AABD or TANF and reapplies within 30 days of the date of their notice of change, and were canceled or deleted based on one of the following, issue GA benefits without a gap.

  • TANF stopped because:
    • stepparent liability meets the child(ren)'s needs; or
    • stepparent failed to verify income; or
    • parent is participating in a strike; or
    • there is no longer an eligible child in the home.
  • AABD cash stopped because the client is no longer blind or disabled.
  • GA Family and Children Assistance stopped because there is no longer an eligible child in the home.
