A sanction is imposed only after conciliation with the client is unsuccessful. Sanctions only apply to nonexempt clients, not to volunteers. A GA-TA client is sanctioned by suspending their case.
A sanctioned client is ineligible for 2 fiscal months or until they comply with FSE&T requirements, whichever occurs first. The first fiscal month of the sanction period is the first regular roll month that benefits can be
suspended. The sanction period ends on the last day of the 2nd fiscal month. The next day the client can regain eligibility for GA.
A sanctioned case that is not resumed is centrally canceled for the 3rd fiscal month after the suspension begins.
Example: Ms. J's TA case is suspended effective 02/98 due to an FSE&T sanction. If resumption action is not taken, the case will centrally cancel for 04/98.
If the client requests resumption after terminal cut-off for the 3rd month, they must file a new application.
