SNAP, Cash

revised textTo qualify for SNAP and Cash, a person must be a U.S. citizen or must have a specific type of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) status and meet other criteria.

Medical

new textTo qualify for Medical, an adult age 19 and older must be a U.S. citizen or must have a specific type of USCIS status and meet other criteria. Certain ineligible noncitizens may qualify for emergency medical (see PM 06-05-00).

new textChildren age 18 and younger who are undocumented do not have to meet other immigration requirements to qualify for All Kids. Additionally, children with certain classes of nonimmigrant visas may qualify for All Kids (see PM 03-01-02-k).

All Programs

Noncitizens who are either not applying for benefits for themselves or who do not meet citizen/USCIS criteria can get benefits for their children who meet the criteria.

revised testNoncitizens (other than undocumented children for medical) who do not want to give proof of their USCIS status do not qualify for benefits. Do not ask these persons for proof of their USCIS status. Do not report these ineligible noncitizens to USCIS. Do not deny or cancel the rest of the case due to a person's refusal to give proof of their USCIS status.

Persons temporarily in the U.S. such as diplomats, students, tourists, and visitors do not qualify for SNAP, Cash or Medical benefits.
