(1) 04 Cases

A client in an 04 case who is required to be in a work, training, or other self-sufficiency activity must participate an average of at least 30 hours per week. Participation hours include hours the applicant or client works and hours they participate in a work, training, or other self-sufficiency activity.

A young parent under age 20 who has not completed their high school education must participate in Teen Parent Services (TPS) (see PM 14-12-00).

(2) 06 Cases

One or both parents in an 06 case may be required to work or take part in a work activity, depending upon the family situation. The combined hours must total at least 35 per week. Participation hours include hours the applicants or clients work and hours they participate in a work, training, or other self-sufficiency activity. One parent in an 06 case must work or take part in Work Experience (see PM 21-02-05) or another work activity for at least 30 hours per week, except as follows.

Parents in an 06 case who do not have a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and are:

  • under age 20 must take part in Basic Education for an average of 30 hours per week, instead of work or a work activity. These cases are handled by Teen Parent Services (TPS) (see PM 14-12-00). If they do not make sufficient progress, they will be placed in Work Experience.
  • age 20 and over may choose to take part in Basic Education (see PM 21-03-01) in addition to work or a work activity.
