(1) One-Month Approval - Notice Mailed by Local Office

Send each unit approved for a one-month period a notice of eligibility that includes the date that its approval expires. The last date by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing SNAP benefits is the date which is 17 calendar days from the date entered at the top of the notice of eligibility. If the 17th day is not a workday, the first workday after the 17th day is the last day by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.

(2) 2-Month Approval - Notice Mailed by Local Office

Send each unit approved for a 2-month period a notice of eligibility that includes the date that its approval expires.

  • If the unit is approved by the 28th day of the first fiscal month of the 2-month approval period, the notice of eligibility and the date of expiration of approval must be sent between the 13th and 28th day of the first fiscal month. The last day by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits is the 15th day of the 2nd fiscal month. If the 15th day of the 2nd fiscal month is not a workday, the first workday after the 15th day is the last date to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.
  • If the notice is mailed after the 28th day of the first fiscal month, the last date by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing SNAP benefits is the date which is 17 calendar days from the date entered at the top of the notice of eligibility. If the 17th day is not a workday, the first workday after the 17th day is the last date to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.

(3) 3-Month Approval - Notice Centrally Generated or Notice Mailed by Local Office

Each SNAP unit that is approved for a 3-month period is mailed a notice of expiration of eligibility and the brochure, Guide to Services. The notice and the brochure are computer generated. If the notice of expiration of eligibility is not mailed centrally, a notice is completed and mailed by the local office along with the Guide to Services brochure.

  • The SNAP unit is centrally mailed a computer generated notice of expiration of eligibility and the Guide to Services brochure if the unit:
    • is authorized SNAP benefits for the first month of the 3-month approval period via the Mercury issuance system; and
    • is authorized for the 2nd and 3rd months via the regular roll issuance system.

The computer generated notice and the Guide to Services brochure are centrally mailed to the SNAP unit about revised text 45 calendar days before the end of the approval period. The notice indicates the last day by which the SNAP unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.

NOTE: This date is the 15th day of the 3rd fiscal month.

  • The local office completes and mails the SNAP unit a notice of expiration if the unit is approved for benefits for all 3 months of the 3-month approval period via the Mercury issuance system. Do not mail the notice any earlier than 60 calendar days before the end of the approval period.

To ensure ongoing benefits, the SNAP unit must reapply no later than 15 calendar days after the first day of the 3rd fiscal month. If the 15th calendar day is not a workday, the SNAP unit has until the next workday to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits. However, if the notice is not mailed to the SNAP unit by the 28th day of the 2nd fiscal month, the unit has until 17 calendar days from the date entered at the top of the notice to ensure ongoing benefits. If the 17th day is not a workday, the SNAP unit has until the next workday to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.

(4) 4-Month or More Approval Period - Notice of Expiration Centrally Mailed

Each unit approved for more than a 3-month period is centrally mailed a notice of expiration and the Guide to Services brochure if the 2nd to the last month of the approval period is issued via the regular rolls. For EZ REDE Units, see PM 19-03-05-c.

The notice and the Guide to Services brochure are centrally mailed to the SNAP unit about revised text 45 calendar days before the expiration date of the approval period.

The central notice shows the last day the SNAP unit has to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.

NOTE: This date is the 16th day of the last fiscal month of the approval period.
