The income standard for a resident of a nursing home is $30 and is called the NH (nursing home) Standard, also referred to as the "Group Care Standard." This standard is not used for certain veterans or surviving spouses who are nursing home residents (see PM 15-04-04-e).
The income standard for a resident of an SLF is called the SLF Standard and is based on whether the person shares a room. For an SLF resident who does not share a room, the SLF Standard is the SSI rate for a single person. For 2014, this amount is $721 for a resident who shares a room, the SLF Standard is 1/2 of the SSI rate for a couple. For 2014, this amount is $541.
Beginning the first full month that a person is an NH or SLF resident, determine medical eligibility separately from any person who remains in the customer's home. Do not apply the income or resources of the persons in the home to the needs of the resident.
