Each SNAP unit is given a standard deduction. The amount of the standard deduction depends on the number of people in the SNAP unit.
Subtract the standard deduction from the sum of adjusted earned income plus net unearned income. The result is called total adjusted income.
Deduct the following expenses from total adjusted income to determine Net Monthly Income:
- Standard Medical Deduction or actual medical expenses for units with a qualifying member;
- dependent care costs; and
- excess shelter costs.
