WAG 12-01-03.

GA-TA and GA-FCA applicants and clients may be eligible for additional payment(s). These additional payments are called special needs.

  • Correction of an underpayment of cash benefits (see PM 23-01-00).
  • Change in mailing date - When a change in mailing date of the regular benefit check creates a period of unmet need, a special payment is issued.
  • Day care costs - Day care costs can be paid to allow a RPY to work or attend an education or training program. Does not apply to GA-TA. See PM 06-16-00 for information on day care.
  • Transportation allowance - An allowance for transportation to a drug or alcohol treatment or rehabilitation program can be provided. A transportation allowance is not provided if transportation can be provided without charge by relatives, friends, or other agencies or services. A client is expected to use any cost-free mode of transportation available in the community.

GA-TA applicants and clients may be eligible for additional payment(s) for a therapeutic diet. A therapeutic diet allowance can be approved for a client who is diabetic if the diet is prescribed by a physician. Dietary supplements prescribed by a physician are covered under the Medicaid program as a medical supply item (see PM 20-18-02).

When determining initial or ongoing eligibility do not increase the Payment Level by the amount of special needs items. The case must be eligible based on the Payment Level before special needs can be included.
