Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) is administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). SSA provides cash and medical (non-Medicaid) benefits to persons who qualify based on their (or a member of their family's) previous
covered earnings. Monthly payments are not based on need, but on the worker's "insured" status.
Monthly benefits are paid to retired or disabled workers, their dependents, and to survivors of deceased workers.
