Refer responsible relatives not living with the client to the FRU for support action.

Responsible relatives not living with the client may be directed by an ASO to make support payments directly to HFS.

Until the ASO is sent to the responsible relative, consider any payment made to the client as unearned income. Do not budget payments made directly to Springfield but use them when determining ongoing eligibility.

During the application process or when doing a REDE, the Family Community Resource Center provides, reviews, completes, and routes all responsible relative forms when:

  • a legally responsible relative deserts, abandons or otherwise leaves the benefit unit; or
  • a person who had been reported as a responsible relative is no longer a responsible relative; or
  • responding to requests from the FRU for information or action on specific cases.
