A person with a chronic illness is exempt from complying with SNAP E & T requirements. To exempt a person, the Client Assessment Unit (CAU) must find that the illness or injury is serious enough to prevent the client from engaging in employment or
training activities. To be found chronically ill, a physician or licensed or certified psychologist must verify that the person's physical or mental impairment, either by itself or in conjunction with age or other factors, prevents the client from
working or engaging in SNAP E & T activities.
To exempt the client, the physical or mental condition must last at least 6 months. The decision also considers whether the condition would make it difficult for the person to:
- attend classes or training, or
- seek a job in person, or
- successfully complete a training program, or
- successfully work at a full-time job.
Documented proof of a person's medical condition is required. Medical records reporting the client's medical condition are acceptable proof of the inability to engage in SNAP E & T activities.
The Family Community Resource Center advises the client of CAU's decision.
