For residents who were in an active SNAP case when they applied, notify their former caseworker of the change in circumstances once their SNAP application is approved.
The client's former caseworker takes one of the following actions on the old case:
- If benefits increase or stay the same, sends DHS 1988, Response to Reported Change--SNAP Program, to the payee.
- If benefits decrease or the unit is ineligible, completes and processes DHS 552 to reduce or cancel benefits, DHS 157C is centrally sent.
- If there is not enough information to determine ongoing eligibility, shorten the approval period by sending DHS 1979, Continuing Your SNAP Benefits, before the first day of the last fiscal month of eligibility.
