MR #13.20: Maximum and Minimum Monthly SNAP Allotments Decrease Effective November 2013

Summary

  • Effective November 2013, the maximum monthly SNAP allotments and the minimum monthly benefit amounts for 1-2 person households are decreased.
  • The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) also known as the stimulus package, increased the maximum SNAP allotments to foster economic activity in response to the recession. This increase in benefits under ARRA ends on November 1, 2013.
  • Effective with November SNAP issuances, use the new monthly amounts to determine eligibility.
  • The SNAP Allotments are revised.  
  • The Basis of Issuance Table will be revised and provided in a later release.
  • The change in monthly allotments are reflected in all system calculations and benefits processed on or after 09/16/13, effective for all November issuances.
  • System changes to the SNAP Web calculator are effective 11/01/13.
  • The Program Standards chart (WAG 25-03-02) (pdf) is revised with the new maximum monthly allotments.
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DHS 124) is revised.
  • Included with this release is a poster Decrease in SNAP Benefits (pdf) Decrease in SNAP Benefits Spanish (pdf), Decrease in SNAP Benefits Polish (pdf) to display in the FCRC lobby to help make customers aware of the reduction in SNAP allotments in November. We will provide a Spanish version as soon as it becomes available.

In April 2009, the  American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) also known as the stimulus package, raised SNAP benefits to help people affected by the recession. The increased benefits provided by this law ends on November 1, 2013. As a result some SNAP households may see a decrease in benefits.

Maximum Monthly Benefits

The maximum monthly SNAP allotments and the minumum monthly benefit amounts for 1-2 person households are reduced as follows. Use the new monthly amounts to determine eligibility effective with November issuances.

Minimum Monthly Benefits

The minimum monthly benefit amount for 1-2 person households is reduced from $16 to $15 effective with November issuances.
