The Illinois Department of Human Services' Division of Rehabilitation Services (DHS/DRS) is the state's lead agency serving persons with disabilities. Our staff work one-on-one with individuals who have disabilities and their families to empower them to reach their employment, education, and independent living goals.

DRS is committed to providing 21st Century World Class Customer Service to our customers and our staff. Everyday, staff working in DRS field offices throughout the state make a difference in the lives of thousands of people with disabilities.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation staff help many people go to work for the first time in their life and help others get better jobs so they can become self-sufficient.
  • Home Services staff help individuals with severe disabilities get the services they need to remain in the home and function as independently as possible.
  • Transition staff help high school students with disabilities prepare to transition to work.

DRS also offers specialized services to meet the unique needs of people who are blind and visually impaired, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Hispanic/Latino individuals with disabilities, as well as children and youth with disabilities.

Professional Opportunities

If you have a master's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation teaching, orientation and mobility, education, psychology, counseling and guidance, or a closely related field, you should consider becoming a Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee or Rehabilitation/ Mobility Instructor.

Both positions offer you the opportunity to help people with disabilities find and keep quality employment and/or maintain self-sufficiency so they can continue to live in their own communities. You will also work one-on-one with your customers, providing case management and case coordination services.

Other Opportunities

If you are a high school graduate and have one year of clerical experience, our Rehabilitation Case Coordinator position could be just what you're looking for.

As a Rehabilitation Case Coordinator, you would be part of the rehabilitation team, assisting people with disabilities in meeting their rehabilitation goals.
