The Department pays for psychological or psychiatric examinations needed by AABD or P3-TA clients who are appealing SSA's denial of SSI due to "not disabled"
in cases where:
- the client has been found disabled by CAU, and
- the Department did not pay for psychological tests as part of the CAU determination, and
- the attorney representing the client obtained prior approval from CAU for payment of the test.
The Department pays for a psychological or psychiatric examination needed by a TANF client in the appeal of their SSI denial when the attorney representing the client obtained prior approval from CAU. The TANF client must be currently receiving assistance.
When an attorney requests payment of a psychological test, refer the attorney to CAU. Advise the attorney that prior approval for payment must be obtained from CAU.
